Donald Trump accuses Barack Obama of ‘wire tapping’ his phones at Trump Tower

President Donald Trump is attacking his predecessor, Barack Obama, in a series of tweets claiming that Obama had tapped his phones at Trump Tower prior to the election and claiming that Obama had reached a “new low.”

“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election?” Trump asked as he kicked off the tweetstorm at around three in the morning on Saturday.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted, which is ironic enough in itself, since McCarthyism refers to the practice of making accusations of subversion without any regard for whether or not evidence exists, and the president has provided no evidence to back up his claims.

“I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!” Trump wrote, later adding, “How low has President Obama gone to tapp [sic] my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”

What’s more, Trump blamed Obama for the contact that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had with Russia while he was a senator, tweeting, “The first meeting Jeff Sessions had with the Russian Amb [sic] was set up by the Obama Administration under education program for 100 Ambs……”
