Chicago paper blasted over story about Chance the Rapper’s child support

The Chicago Sun Times' front page opinion piece about rapper's child support case comes days after he donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Chance the Rapper recently made headlines with a $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools, and he’s gotten a lot of good press for the grand gestures.

However, the Chicago Sun Times recently ran an front page opinion piece suggesting that the Chicago rapper wasn’t all he was cracked up to be because of child support issues.

According to the article written by Mary Mitchell, Chance the Rapper’s “messy split from the mother of his 18-month-old daughter threatens to overshadow the positive vibes created by his $1 million donation to the Chicago Public Schools.”

–OPINION: It takes a village, and Chance the Rapper is leading the charge–

The article went on to drag the fact that, while Chance is supporting his family, there is no long-term arrangement in place.

“Kirsten is essentially being held hostage in Chancelor’s residence as, on one hand, he will not assist her with the support necessary to obtain her own residence unless this entire matter is resolved on his terms, yet on the other hand, Kirsten does not have knowledge of what specific objections Chancelor has to her counter proposal and therefore, it would be impossible to resolve,” states Kirsten Corley’s child-support petition.

Since the opinion piece went live, Chance has since responded on Instagram with a video message from himself as well as his daughter and her mother disproving the article’s claims that they were at odds.

“Ya’ll better do yall’s jobs and stop worrying about how good my family is,” Chance said in the video. “Friendly reminder: don’t let anybody get between you and your family. Don’t worry about what other people say about you. Just do your job and everything will be fine.”

Twitter had plenty to say about the Sun Times’ front page story, and naturally, came to Chance’s defense. Check out some of the reactions below.

Family always.
