‘Empire’ star Morocco Omari arrested for domestic violence

Morocco Omari, star of “Empire,” has been arrested for domestic violence following an alleged dispute with a woman in Chicago.

According to TMZ, Omari was booked on misdemeanor battery charges after the 24-year-old woman called 911 Wednesday afternoon, claiming the actor–who plays Lucious Lyon’s half-brother–pushed her to the ground several times during an argument.

The alleged victim reportedly suffered scratches to her neck and chest. After reviewing her injuries, the authorities reportedly decided to press charges.

A rep for Omari sent the following statement to theGrio:

Morocco would like to thank his fans for their support. After extensive investigation into the events of the past day, it is abundantly clear that the allegations made against Morocco are blatantly false. Morocco was brought up by his mother and grandmother and is the proud father of two minor daughters. He has long been an advocate of anti-violence against women. Morocco proudly served the United States in Operation Desert Storm and was honorably discharged from the Marines after his Combat Tour. In the past two decades Morocco has had but two long term relationships. He has never displayed any hint of violence toward women and never will. Violence against women simply isn’t in Omari’s DNA. We would like to thank the Chicago Police Department and are extremely confident that Morocco will be completely vindicated in this matter.

Omari recently chatted with theGrio‘s Gerren Keith Gaynor during an episode of #theGrioLIVE. The actor discussed his intense role alongside Terence Howard and Taraji P. Henson and his theater background. Check it out below.
