A Georgia teen accidentally shot and killed himself while recording on Instagram Live with a gun as his friends looked on in horror.
According to his mother, Shaniqua Stephens, Malachi Hemphill had just taken out the trash moments before he went into his bedroom to record the video, and she knew something was wrong when she heard the sound of the shot.
“I heard a big boom. I couldn’t tell if it was a gunshot or what,” Stephens said.
She went on to explain that she and her daughter rushed to Malachi’s bedroom, but the door was locked.
“We kicked in the door. We found him just laying there in a pool of blood,” Stephens said. “My daughter screamed and said, ‘Mom, turn his phone off!’ As I proceeded to look at his phone, he was on Instagram Live.”
According to Stephens, Malachi’s friends had been watching the stream, and several of them rushed over after the accident.
“There was about 40 to 50 kids outside,” she said. “I guess these were the kids that were watching on Live that live in the area. I guess when it happened, they just ran over here.”
After Malachi’s mother found him, the teen was rushed to Gracy Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was pronounced dead, according to news station WXIA.
