Confirmed: Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o to costar in Ava DuVernay buddy movie

It all started as a viral Twitter meme, and now, that 2014 photo of Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o at a fashion show together is becoming a movie.

A few years back, Rihanna and Nyong’o were photographed together looking amazing as usual, but then Black Twitter took off with it, with one Twitter user noting, “Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans.”

Everyone got behind the idea, even passing around script ideas, concept art, and more. Both stars got behind the idea, which only added fuel to the fire, and when Twitter started clamoring for Ava DuVernay to direct and Issa Rae to write, both women stepped up to the plate as well.

All that was left was to get a studio, and after some heated negotiating at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix is going to head up this project.

It’s not clear how much inspiration Rae will take from what the fans have already given her for this concept, but as for the rest of us, we can only hope that it lives up to the movie that we all had dreamed up from that very first image.
