Teacher fired for giving students controversial “most likely” awards
The teacher who gave a student an award for being “most likely to become a terrorist” is no longer employed at the school.
The Channelview Independent School District said in a statement that the junior high teacher had been fired after giving the award to 13-year-old student Lizeth Villanueva, along with other questionable awards such as “most likely to blend in with white people.”
“We have concluded our investigation and the teacher responsible is no longer employed by the district,” the statement read. This after the school district issued an apology for the “insensitive and offensive fake mock awards.”
Villanueva said that the teacher who gave out the awards hadn’t cared if students’ feelings were hurt and was laughing the entire time she gave out the awards.
“She said that some people might get offended, but she doesn’t really care about our feelings,” she told CBS News.
Villanueva’s mom, Ena Hernandez, was shocked by the award and upset when her daughter came home with it.
“I read it twice. I’m like, ‘What is this?!'” she said. “It doesn’t look good at all, especially coming from a teacher, a grown-up woman. It doesn’t look good because everything that’s going on right now.”
