Beyoncé responds to Houston hurricane: We will help as many as we can

Beyoncé is ready to help her hometown in the wake of the destruction left by Hurricane Harvey.

“My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help,” the singer told The Houston Chronicle in a statement.

“I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor [Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston] to implement a plan to help as many as we can,” she added.

BeyGOOD was launched in 2013 as a philanthropic effort to help those in need. It has, for example, helped the citizens of Flint, Michigan, which has suffered from a bad water crisis, raising more than $80,000 toward relief efforts. They have also worked to provide access to safe drinking water for people in Burundi.

Now, the foundation is turning its attention toward Hurricane Harvey’s victims. More than 30,000 people are reported to be affected by the hurricane, which dropped a historic amount of rainfall on Houston and resulted in severe flooding.

A few days before the announcement, Beyoncé sent her love to the victims, writing on Instagram, “Texas you are in my prayers.”
