Myeshia Johnson ‘very upset’ over Trump call, can’t see husband’s body
Myeshia Johnson, the widow of U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson, appeared on "GMA" after her husband was killed during an ambush in Niger.
Myeshia Johnson, the widow of U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson, appeared on“Good Morning America” to say that she was still “very angry” about the phone call that she received from President Donald Trump after her husband was killed during an ambush in Niger.
“I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name, and that’s what hurt me the most because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country why can’t you remember his name,” Johnson recalled, adding, “That’s what made me upset and cry even more because my husband was an awesome soldier.”
She went on to say that Rep. Frederica Wilson had been “100 percent correct” in her characterization of the call with Trump, which has caused significant controversy since Wilson spoke out about it. Wilson had criticized Trump for saying that Johnson “knew what he was signing up for” when he spoke with Johnson’s widow.

Shortly after Myeshia Johnson’s interview, President Trump took to Twitter to deny her claims. “I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!” he tweeted Monday morning.

Johnson also said that she had not been allowed to see her husband’s body since he arrived home in a casket.
“I need to see him so I know it’s my husband,” she said. “They won’t show me a finger, a hand; I know my husband’s body from head-to-toe and they won’t let me see anything.”
All she knows is that her husband, who she has known since they were both 6 years old, came home in a casket draped with the American flag.
“I don’t know what is in that box,” she said. “It could be empty for all I know.”
