WASHINGTON – President Obama this morning outlined his strategy for confronting a global threat. Not Iraq, not Iran, not even North Korea – but rather, attacks in cyberspace.
The president says raising awareness on the threats of Internet security is a top priority in his administration. Along with goals to greatly enhance security, the president says he will soon name a “Cyber Czar” to oversee the plan.
President Obama said, “Our defense and military networks are under constant attacks. Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups have spoken of their desire to unleash cyber attacks on our country Attacks that are harder to detect and hard to defend against. Indeed, in today’s world, attacks could come not from just a few extremists in suicide vests, but from a few keystrokes on the computer. A weapon of mass disruption.”
