Middle East reacts to Obama’s “New Beginning” speech
CAIRO – President Barack Obama delivered a major speech to the Muslim world today (Thursday) from Cairo, Egypt. The speech focused on several topics and in it the president called for a new beginning between the United States and Muslims.
President Obama did not issue any new policies towards the Middle East, but he did lay out his plans for peace in the region.
The Supreme Ayatollah of Iran called the speech “Slogans” and while the President called the bond with Israel “Unbreakable” there were protests in Israel in reaction to his calling for a settlement freeze.
The president said, “So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, and who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. This cycle of suspicion and discord must end.”
