Brandon Sawyer, 13, of Middletown, OH got the surprise of his life when he opened his mailbox yesterday. It contained a letter from President Barack Obama.

Sawyer wrote to Obama several months ago, expressing concerns about crime and drug activity in his neighborhood. “We need to stop people from doing all these sorts of drugs,” Sawyer wrote.

Sawyer, an eighth grader in the fall, wrote the letter on the advice his grandmother.

“I always taught him that sometimes you have to bypass the middleman and go to the top to get something done,” said Barbara Pipkin, Sawyer’s grandmother.

Obama urged Sawyer to take action, starting with talking to his friends.
