Sadie Mitchell was rushed to a hospital after a bullet pierced a window and struck her.
Mitchell immediately called a neighbor, who rushed over to help her and summon paramedics.
She died several hours later after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The bullet came through a first floor window.
Law enforcement officials said it appears some youths had been in a fight nearby and may have fired the fatal shot.
No arrests have been made.
