A three-year-old Texas boy is being called a hero after saving his grandmother from a fire. Investigators say the flames destroyed the Houston home Monday afternoon.

The house is destroyed. There are few belongings left to save. But the family that lived in this home on Springdale near Elbert in northeast Houston gives thanks.

“Yeah, I’m proud. The Lord is good! I’m so proud that they got out of there. Nobody got hurt.” said Lurine Henson, the great-grandmother.

The Haynes family angel was this little three-year-old boy named Demarte. He smelled the smoke and saw the flames. He woke up his grandmother.

“I didn’t know the house was on fire. My grandson told me, ‘Grandma, there’s smoke Grandma.’ And I thought he was playing. And he said, ‘Grandma, there’s smoke!’ And when I looked up, the whole house was smoked up. When I got outside, that’s when I found out my house was on fire!” said Linda Hayne, grandmother.

She shared the wooden home with her two sons and two grandchildren. When firefighters arrived, the house was really going.

While there is very little property to save, the quick actions of a three-year-old little boy, not even old enough for kindergarten, saved his grandma’s life.
