The first poll since Harold Ford declared his interest in challenging New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand gives her a wide, but uncomfortable, lead.

The Marist survey finds 43% of registered Democrats in New York would back the appointed senator, while just 24% would back the newcomer from Tennessee.

But a large portion of Democrats are unsure — 33%.
