It began 40 years ago. Countless music legends graced its stage. Millions of viewers tuned in. Now, Questlove of the “The Roots” has teamed up with actor Terrence Howard and VH1 to commemorate Soul Train in a documentary.

Questlove explained to theGrio the significance Soul Train had on his life and also on black culture. For him, the show was about promoting positive images.

“It’s so important at a young age,” he says. “That sense of pride. That sense of history.”

For him, a sense of history allows young African-Americans to break the common stereotypes associated with black entertainers.
