MIAMI (AP) — Prosecutors won’t pursue criminal charges against former football star Warren Sapp, who was arrested in Florida a day before the Super Bowl.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office on Wednesday declined to prosecute Sapp, who would have faced one count of misdemeanor domestic battery. Documents from the prosecution say there were inconsistencies in the victim’s statements and evidence.
Sapp’s attorney, Christopher Lyons, says his client was “always confident that the system would work.”
Sapp was arrested Feb. 6 following an alleged incident at a Miami Beach hotel. The former defensive tackle played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders during his NFL career. He was also once a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
