From the recording studio to City Hall, a popular East Bay rapper has announced she’s running for mayor.
Sara Mestas, who used to go by the name Mo Wiley in her rapping days, is now a politician — perhaps the first of her kind but that’s not holding her back.
A drug dealer at age 12, pregnant at 14, and out on her own at just 15 years old, this mother of three knows firsthand the challenges many face and what it takes to overcome them.
Now, at 33, she is running for Mayor of San Leandro and says her life experiences will help shape the way she governs the city.
“I think that’s the message — your past doesn’t disqualify you from your future,” says Mestas.
Mestas is prepared to put her rapping career on hold while she runs for office and if things go her way, no one will be able to touch her success…
