Report: Fantasia in hospital for 'medication overdose'

Reports are circulating that former American Idol champion, Fantasia Barrino, was hospitalized last night in North Carolina.

UPDATE: According to a statement by Fantasia’s manager, the singer’s hospitalization is a result of taking a combination of aspirin and a sleep aid. In the statement, Fantasia says that she ingested the medication after feeling “overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention”, referring to allegations about her relationship with Antwaun Cook.

The statement describes the singer’s romantic relationship with Cook, but claims that Fantasia only learned of Mrs. Cook’s legal complaint yesterday. “Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused.” TMZ.com has the statement in its entirety.

Sources told WCNC-TV, an NBC affiliate station in Charlotte, that Barrino was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville at approximately 9:00pm and treated for a “medication overdose”.

While the nature of the reported overdose is still unclear, some may wonder if this incident has anything to do with the singer’s recent negative publicity.

Earlier this week, Fantasia found herself in the spotlight with rumors of an alleged sex tape with married man and T-Mobile salesman, Antwuan Cook.

Cook’s wife, Paula, has also filed suit against Antwuan and reports have speculated that Fantasia may be next on Paula’s list.

Yesterday, Fantasia issued a statement debunking the allegations and claiming that she is “not responsible” for the breakup between Antwuan and Paula.
