Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

BOSTON (AP) — The parents of the Pace University football player shot by police outside a Thornwood, N.Y., bar say they do not want to turn their son’s death into a racial issue.

The parents of Danroy “D.J.” Henry, of Easton, Mass., told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday that all they want is the truth.

Police have said that Henry, who is black, sped away Sunday and hit two white officers after a policeman knocked on his car window.

The family’s attorney has said that eyewitnesses have contradicted that account.

His parents, Angela and Danroy Sr., said so far police have not provided them with much information, and appealed to any witnesses to come forward.

Attorney Michael Sussman says he will ask a judge to preserve and hand over all evidence in the case.
