ATLANTA (AP) — The United Negro College Fund is partnering with a national association of financial services firms to offer internships to students at historically black colleges and universities.
The UNCF and the Money Management Institute are announcing a diversity initiative that will help 25 students. Those selected will receive a potentially renewable summer internship and participate in a business plan competition. Participants can be considered for employment upon graduation.
The initiative is designed to increase the pipeline of HBCU students into the financial services industry. Blacks make up less than six percent of the industry’s executives, managers and administrators.
Both groups hope to expand the program to 100 students per year.
