Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – An Iowa football player says one of his teammates “grabbed a large amount of condoms” before going into a dorm room where another player was with a female athlete.

Mike Daniels testified Wednesday that he walked Cedric Everson to the room at his request and stayed outside after Everson went in. After several minutes, he said Everson opened the door, gave a “thumbs up sign,” and Daniels left.

Prosecutors say player Abe Satterfield assaulted the woman in that room and was in bed with her. They say Everson told Satterfield to get out of bed and had sex with her while she was asleep.

Daniels says he knew the victim but kept his distance because she was “was overly friendly with everybody.”

Everson is on trial for second-degree sexual abuse.
