Police arrested seven Upper Darby High School students at school Monday on charges of kidnapping and assaulting a 13-year-old student.

Seven students who attend the Opportunity Center at the high school kidnapped, beat, and hung a 14-year-old upside down from a tree until he fell face first, Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood said in a press conference Monday.

Chitwood said this is the worst case of bullying police have ever seen. He said everyone is lucky they did not kill the 13-year-old.

Police rushed into the high school Monday morning and took six students out in handcuffs. Police are still searching for the seventh student.

Chitwood said that surveillance video shows the students hanging the student, as well as a woman walking by as the kid is screaming for help and she did nothing.

“I find it offensive when [people] say cops don’t do anything…and not one person called 911,” said Chitwood.

All of the students arrested on assault and kidnapping charges are juveniles and will be sent to the Lima Detention Facility, according to Chitwood.

The 13-year-old victim did not have any serious physical injuries, said Chitwood.
