The cast of Jumping the Broom sat down for an interview regarding the film, which opens today. Paula Patton discussed what about the movie made her want to join the cast.

“On the surface, it’s about class differences. You have a working class family marrying into an upscale family and you wonder how those dynamics are going to work out or not work out,” she said.

Angela Bassett and Loretta Devine (who play the mothers of the film’s bride and groom) talked about what the process was like for them.

“Excellence was important to the character and the relationship with family. None of it works sometimes,” said Bassett.

I think anybody whose been through a wedding experience knows the drama behind the scenes can be outrageous sometimes and if a couple can survive that they can survive whatever happens in the future,” concluded Patton.
