HOUSTON — Jeffrey Prevost, 51, confessed to police Sunday he shot his girlfriend, Sherry White, 50, and her son, Kyle Lavergne, 20. He has been charged with two counts of capital murder.
Saturday, relatives found the mother and son dead in their home – after not hearing from them within 36 hours.
“I had to break in through the back window,” relative John Elder said. “I didn’t see her, but I found my little cousin at the door.”
Relatives said they think White was going to end her relationship with Prevost. According to investigators, White and Prevost dated for two months before he killed her out of jealousy.
“It’s just hard to believe that she’s not going to be here anymore,” friend Audra White said. “Her or her son.”
According to a police report, Prevost shot Lavergne when he trying to leave the home. Both victims were shot in the head. White was also stabbed.
Lavergne – who graduated from Lamar High School – had plans to become an airline mechanic.
“He just didn’t deserve it,” friend Aaron White said. “He always watched out for his mama, and his mama always watched out for him.”
Prevost – who is being held in the Harris County Jail – criminal history includes a 20-year prison sentence for aggravated assault, which was first, listed as attempted murder.
