The woman who played Ann Huxtable, mother to Bill Cosby’s Dr. Cliff Huxtable, on the long-running sitcom “The Cosby Show” has passed away at the age of 93.

Clarice Taylor, who earned an Emmy nomination in 1986 for the role in the comedy, succumbed to heart failure, according to her family.

Taylor’s acting career began with the groundbreaking Negro Ensemble Company in New York in the 1960s, and she went on to amass a varied stage and screen resume. She appeared in Clint Eastwood’s directorial debut “Play Misty for Me” in 1971, and had roles on other iconic television series such as “Sesame Street” and “Sanford and Son.”

Taylor is survived by her two sons and five grandchildren.
