Gold medal Olympian Dominique Dawes, co-chair of the president’s council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, is taking part in a program aimed at inspiring people of all ages to maintain an active lifestyle. IVillage’s ‘Get Moving Now’ project is a 60 day challenge for anyone who wants motivation and tips to help stay fit.

Dawes, who participated in the 1996 Atlanta games as part of the Magnificent 7, is urging individuals as well as entire families to participate. “I really want families…I want everyone to get involved in this amazing challenge…to get people moving and active and jump starting an active lifestyle” Dawes said on the Today show.

Other athletes such as Grant Hill, Drew Brees, Allyson Felix, and Michelle Kwan will also be participating in the challenge. Even Cornell McClelin, the Obama’s personal trainer, will join with IVillage to teach, motivate, and help you keep active.

Dominique Dawes has always been an inspiration. She was the first female African-American gymnast to win an individual Olympic medal, and now she is part of a program aimed at keeping people healthy and active. Dawes will be in charge of jump roping, an activity she did every day for 20 minutes as a warm-up when she trained for the Olympics.
