Shooting, house fire leaves woman dead on Memphis street

“We lost a great friend to our whole community”, said Patricia Mitchell, a friend of the woman. “Everybody knew her. She was very respected.”
A 48-year-old woman was found dead in the 1300 block of Latham Street in Memphis, Tennessee last night. The African-American woman has not be identified, but her neighborhood is in mourning.
“She never did nothing to anybody”, said the woman’s daughter Clary Thompson. Her family and friends say she was very nice and always gave good advice.

The incident is now under investigation. Authorities are also investigating a house fire on the same block. The call came in just after 3:30am this morning, however, no one was believed to be inside. An investigation for this incident is also underway.
Residents of the neighborhood are outraged at the incident and a recent wave of crime to hit the area. Earlier this week there was a drive-by shooting on the block that left two women wounded.
