Interesting Facts: Jerry Rice finished his college degree 17 years later via independent study and correspondence courses in 2001. Jerry Rice was selected to the Pro-Bowl 13 times.
If it was not for a run-in with his high school principal for cutting school, Jerry Rice may not have gone on to break numerous football records and become one of the leagues most dynamic players. Rice’s principal made him join the football team after witnessing his uncanny speed during a mad dash to avoid being caught. He went on to nab a scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University, which culminated with a chance to begin an NFL career.
Dubbed one of the NFL’s greatest wide receivers, the Hall of Famer went on to win three Super Bowl championships with the San Francisco 49ers. Following a 15-year stint with that team, Rice later spent much shorter stints with the Oakland Raiders and the Seattle Seahawks before his retirement in 2005.
Post-retirement, Rice has tried his hand at acting. He has made several TV appearances, including most notably his time on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars where he finished second in the competition. However, football continues to be in the cards for Rice. He has since parlayed his NFL success into a career as a sports analyst with ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown show.
