It should not come as a surprise that Rosalind Brewer was named one of Fortune magazine’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business in 2010. In fact, while still a student at Spelman College, she was able to tackle advance physical and organic chemistry and still remain active on campus within student government.
Brewer has come a long way since leaving the all-female HBCU. Her resume reads like the blueprint of how to move up the corporate ladder. Brewer spent more than two decades at Kimberly-Clark maneuvering the ranks all the way up to president of the company’s global nonwovens division. Today, she is the executive vice president of Wal-Mart and president of the company’s east coast business unit where she manages 1,600 stores.
The Michigan native currently sits on a number of boards, including Spelman’s board of trustees, Molson Coors Brewing Company and Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
