He once lived in a 5,400-plus square foot mansion in Beverly Hills, and resided in a Napa Valley “compound” just a few short years ago, but the New York Post is reporting that funk legend Sly Stone is no longer living a life of luxury. In fact, his “home” now consists of a small camper-van.

The paper reports that the 68-year-old, who allegedly fell on hard times due to substance abuse and financial mismanagement, parks his van in front of a house in the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles, where a retired couple makes sure he eats, and that he has a place to shower.

The Post says Stone, who once led the influential soul/funk group Sly and the Family Stone to numerous hits, including “Everyday People”, “Family Affair” and “Dance to the Music,” is continuing to record his music — on a laptop inside his van.
