Rihanna says she's happy for Chris Brown's success

NEW YORK (AP) — Rihanna says she resented Chris Brown for a time, but she’s put that behind her and is happy Brown has found success in music again.

Rihanna tells Esquire magazine that disliking Brown was taking up too much of her time and she’s “really excited to see the breakthrough he’s had in his career.”

Brown is serving five years of probation after pleading guilty to assault for the attack on Rihanna in February 2009. The singer released the CD “Graffiti” later that year and it was a commercial disappointment. His latest album “F.A.M.E.” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart in March.

Rihanna says she’s impressed by Brown’s perseverance “even when the world seemed like it was against him.”

The November issue of Esquire hits newsstands on Oct. 16.
