Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Stalley is an artist from Massillon, a small town in Ohio that sits between Cleveland and Akron.

Not your typical emcee, Stalley’s content is reflective of the blue collar values that are often associated with the midwest. In his latest mixtape, Lincoln Way Nights, he’s even referred to as the “Bruce Springsteen of rap”. He’s the everyman’s rapper.

With only a few years underneath his belt, the 28-year old lyricist has created such a buzz that he was recently signed to current rap heavyweight Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group record label.

Stalley stopped by theGrio to discuss how his career got started, how his faith in Islam influenced his music and what to expect from him in 2012.
