Essence Atkins, one of the most reliable black actresses in Hollywood and current star of the TBS sitcom Are We There Yet?, had a healthy baby boy — Varro Mendez — on Christmas day. She and husband Jamie Mendez have had a fairy tale courtship; the pair met on Match.com and were married 2009, debunking the notion that internet romances are full of pitfalls and crazy encounters. Atkins not only hit her pregnancy due date of December 25 right on the nose, but she also had a relatively problem-free pregnancy and transition into family life.

From Essence Magazine:

I didn’t have any morning sickness, everything has been extremely well. The only thing I changed was that I stopped working out. All of our friends are like, “You guys are just getting started while our [kids] are off to college,” but it’s like I lived my life, I’ve taken trips to Paris for just 30 hours and came back, I’ve popped bottles, I’ve done it all, now I’m just ready and looking forward to being a mom.
