Carol City High School students hold Trayvon Martin walkout

From NBC Miami: Hundreds of students at Miami’s Carol City High School held a massive walkout Thursday afternoon to protest the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Police said about 300 to 400 students were estimated to have taken part in the protest. Aerial footage showed students pouring into the streets outside the school at 3422 Northwest 187th Street in Miami Gardens around 12:30 p.m.

Students told NBC 6 that it was a Facebook-driven march and that teachers let them leave.

Miami Gardens Police spokesman Carlton Coleman said the school’s principal approved the demonstration which started on campus and quickly spilled onto the streets. School officials said the children weren’t given permission to leave the school.
