Michelle Butler, 20, has been charged with child endangerment after maggots were found in her son’s diaper. The baby boy’s blood was tested and it was positive for exposure to marijuana. The incident was discovered when the woman took her son to a friend,s apartment who noticed the child was sick and called 911. This is the third child abuse related incident has happened in this South Carolina apartment complex. Fox Carolina reports:
HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) – Honea Path Police said a mother was charged with unlawful neglect of a child after nurses found maggots in her child’s diaper and the baby tested positive for marijuana.
Police said they were first called about a sick 10-month-old child at the Shamrock Apartments on E. Hampton Ave on Saturday.
According to the incident report, the child had an ear infection but the mother, 20-year-old Michelle Butler, had not finished giving the baby its prescribed medicine because she had spilled it. The witness told police that the baby was warm and scratching at his ears.
Police said another witness gave the baby some children’s Tylenol before he was eventually taken to the hospital. When officers arrived at Butler’s apartment, EMS was taking the child to the hospital.
