Esperanza Spalding was a guest on The Daily Show and performed her songs “Black Gold” and “Crowned and Kissed.” Zap2it.com said that is is rare to see Jon Stewart invite someone to sing on his show. The singer shared laughs with Stewart during her visit. The Huffington Post reports:

Esperanza Spalding is always surprising people.

Last February, the 27-year-old jazz bassist and singer took everyone by surprise when she beat out pop phenom Justin Bieber for the Best New Artist Grammy at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.

And last night, Spalding—who’s Welsh, Native American, African American and Hispanic— surprised people again when she showed up as a guest on “The Daily Show,” and performed her songs “Black Gold,” and “Crowned and Kissed” from her new album “Radio Music Society,” (which peaked at No. 10 on the general chart and No. 1 on the U.S. Jazz chart).
