Exonerated Brian Banks may have a future in baseball

Brian Banks — a young man who was just exonerated after serving five years for rape — is going to fulfill a dream for a chance to play in the NFL through an upcoming tryout on June 7 with the Seattle Seahawks. If he doesn’t make the Seahawks or any other NFL teams, his hopes of working professionally in sports won’t be dashed. Banks, a former top high school football recruit, was recently acquitted of rape charges — then received an email from CEO Derrick Hall of the Arizona Diamondbacks offering him a job. USA Today has the story:

Brian Banks is getting a chance at his dream of playing in the NFL. He may also have a future in baseball.

The former football super-prospect who served more than five years in prison before his rape conviction was overturned last week has been offered a job by Arizona Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall.

After watching Banks in a television interview after he was exonerated, Hall sent him an e-mail. Here is what he told FOXSsportsArizona.com’s Jack Magruder:

“I just thought, ‘This guy needs a fresh start.’ I saw a very bright, articulate, handsome kid. Great smile. You see a lot of maturity. You see a kid who has been through adversity and can handle it. He’s lost 10 years of his life, and it’s time for some good things to happen to him.”
