Actor Alec Baldwin got into a bit of a scuffle with paparazzi yesterday outside of a New York City marriage license office. Police are looking into possible charges against the actor.
Baldwin was walking out of the marriage office with his fiancee, Hilaria Thomas, when he said a photographer was too close to his face. Baldwin proceeded to allegedly grab the camera of one photographer and shove and punch another.
Later in the afternoon Baldwin tweeted “a ‘photographer’ almost hit me in the face with his camera this morning. #allpaparazzishouldbewaterboarded.”
“He was looking mad,” New Daily News photographer Marcus Santos said. “He said, ‘Step back, step back.’ I said, ‘We’re moving back’. I knew he was going to attack me. I stepped back, and he kept coming. He comes after me, starts shoving and punching me — one time, right in the chin. And then he started shoving me and pushing me. Then he goes the other way.”
“The photographer was clearly frustrated, pushed past the bystander and assaulted Alec with his camera,” Baldwin’s spokesman Mathew Hiltzik said. “There were no punches thrown, and any subsequent physical contact was simply Alec protecting himself.”
The final tweet Baldwin sent out after the ordeal read, “I suppose if the offending paparazzi was wearing a hoodie and I shot him, it would all blow over…”
In the wake of the death of teenager Trayvon Martin, is this tweet insensitive or just a case of a celebrity trying to make an ironic point?
