NBC New York – A subway hero saved a baby in a stroller that was swept by a strong wind onto an elevated subway track in Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon.
Delroy Simmonds was on his way to a job interview at about 1 p.m. when a powerful blast of air carried the stroller from the elevated track onto the J train platform at Van Siclen Avenue. The baby and stroller both landed on the tracks.
“When the stroller went over, I saw the baby’s head fling out,” Simmonds said, recounting the terrifying situation.
A witness said it was a “shock” watching it unfold.
The mother “walks toward the bench to tend to her three kids, and all I see is her turn around real quick and run towards the tracks,” said Khalima Ansari. “My heart was in my stomach. I was shaking. It was scary.”
Simmonds didn’t think twice, and instantly jumped on to the tracks, rescuing the baby before the next train came into the station.
