Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Gabby Douglas covers the Labor Day issue of Jet magazine, in her latest appearance in a recent sweep of media outlet domination. She discusses the “hair gate” controversy surrounding her locks with the publication, in addition to her hopes to “inspire youth in all sports like the First Lady,” according to sources.

Apparently, Douglas’ efforts to glam herself up for her many publicity spots has caused another, though milder, controversy. Some have accused the Olympic gold medalist of “bowing to social pressure” by seeking out a celebrity stylist for a sleek new ‘do. She wears her hair, for instance, on the cover of Jet in a tighter version of the bun that drew heavy criticism during the Olympic Games.

“The gymnast recently tweeted a picture of herself with hair stylist Ted Gibson and that set off another firestorm of crazy criticisms because apparently some believe that if you wear a ponytail while doing gymnastics then you should wear a ponytail every other minute of your life as well,” MadameNoire.com comments on this reaction to the more sophisticated styling.

Hopefully, Gabby’s run of lively television spots and magazine covers has her easily brushing off her detractors.

Gabby has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno with first lady Michelle Obama, America’s Got Talent, and will soon appear on Oprah’s Next Chapter. The talented teen has already graced the cover of People magazine, and shot an elegant fashion shoot with Essence.

Surely, a high-end hair expert is just a small part of the fashion team anyone at Douglas’ level in the limelight requires.
