Azealia Banks to boycott Dolce & Gabbana over blackamoor earrings

Rising rap star Azealia Banks is taking a stand against luxury designer brand Dolce & Gabbana because of a controversial line of earrings which have been heavily criticized for being racially insensitive.

D&G’s Blackamoor earrings, which made their debut in Milan last month during Fashion Week, feature mammy-like figures which generated considerable outrage.

Banks, who has a reputation as a fashion trendsetter in the hip-hop world, was one of the many African-Americans to take offense.

She vented her frustrations on Twitter:

The 21-year-old rap star is currently face of T by Alexander Wang and has her own M.A.C lipstick. Her acclaimed debut EP, 1991, was released earlier this year.
