One of the greatest basketball players of her era, Chamique Holdsclaw is now wanted by the Atlanta Police Department, according to multiple reports.
Holdsclaw, 35, allegedly vandalized the car of a former girlfriend with a baseball bat and fired a gun into it, Atlanta police told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. An arrest warrant has been issued.
The AJC reports Jennifer Lacy is the alleged victim – she described herself as Holdsclaw’s former girlfriend when questioned by police. Lacy plays forward for the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock.
The incident in question took place Tuesday, according to Atlanta’s WSB-TV. The station obtained an incident report which alleges Holdsclaw waited for Lacy to finish working out at a church and then proceeded to follow her in her car. Lacy told police she went to a friend’s house after noticing Holdsclaw was following her.

It was then, Lacy alleges, Holdsclaw got out of her car and smashed the windows of Lacy’s Range Rover with a baseball bat. The incident report states Holdsclaw then “produced a hangdun, fired inside the SUV and fled the scene.” (A 9mm shell casing was found at the scene)
Police told the AJC that Lacy was not injured.
Holdsclaw is a three-time NCAA champion and two-time Naismith Player of the Year. The WNBA’s Washington Mystics drafter her number one overall in 1999, where she went on to earn WNBA Rookie of the Year honors. Holdsclaw also won an Olympic gold medal in 2000 at the Sydney Games.
As of late Thursday afternoon, the AJC reports Holdsclaw is not in custody.
Late Tuesday night, Holdsclaw posted a photo on her Facebook fan page. The photo was an index card with a message which may or may not have been related to Tuesday’s events:
“Everything is a lesson learned. We all make decisions good and bad. As long as we grow from them that’s all that matters. #lessonslearned.”
