It’s been 20 years since MC Hammer performed on the American Music Awards, and last night he made an epic return to the stage.
The 50-year-old rapper/dancer joined the Korean pop star PSY for a performance on “Gangnam Style” that morphed into “2 legit 2 Quit.”
All night the American Music Awards teased PSY’s performance, saying that he would be joined by a special guest. Midway through his performance, the lights when dark, and then MC Hammer appeared on stage in his white signature harem pants. The duo performed together while the audience erupted into applause and stood to their feet.
Hammer revealed backstage during an interview that the performance came together with the aid of Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun.
“Scooter Braun connected us, and [when] I spoke with PSY I knew right away that he is a good guy,” Hammer said. “Psy is fantastic. He’s shifted the planet. He’s got the whole world dancing. And it’s a rarity in this world. Only four people made that happen in history — James Brown, Michael Jackson, yours truly and Psy. ”
