Allen West may be out of Congress, but the Tea Party firebrand has carved out a place in history … or at least on eBay.
A letter West wrote to the Florida office of CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, is listed for sale on the online auction site.
A CAIR official put the letter up for sale as a fundraiser. The current bid: $2,520.
The letter is short. It informs to CAIR officials that West is writing in response to their recent letter. West’s response? “NUTS!”
The Miami New Times reported on the letter back in 2011:
In early August, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) sent a 679-word letter to West urging him to cut ties with “anti-Islamic extremists.. CAIR singled out Bridgette Gabriel, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, and Rev. Neil Dozier as Muslim-haters with whom West has shared stages.
“Muslims protect and serve our great country and are afforded equal protection under law,” the letter read. “We shouldn’t have to defend our rights to worship freely or participate in the governing of our society.”
“NUTS!” was West’s one-word response.
West has a history of outlandish statements, with Muslims being a particularly ripe target. In the past, West warned that Muslims were plotting to institute Sharia law throughout the United States, and said that Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, who is Muslim, “really does represent the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established,”
