Kerry Washington: 'I'd love a career like Diahann Carroll, Julie Andrews or Barbra Streisand'

Kerry Washington stars alongside Craig Robinson in the upcoming romantic comedy Peeples.

The film, written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism, centers around the Peeples, a well-off family celebrating a reunion weekend in the Hamptons, which is interrupted by a surprise guest.

During an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, Washington talked about her new film and revealed that she doesn’t have a dream movie or TV role.

“I don’t have a dream role really. I have a dream career,” she said.  “I’d love to have a career like some of the actresses that I really admire; people like Diahann Carroll, Julie Andrews, or Barbra Streisand. People who have worked in film, television and theater and directed, produced, and acted. I just want to be able to keep doing what I love.”

Washington’s stylist Erin Walsh was recently included on The Hollywood Reporter’s list of the 25 Most Powerful Stylists, for helping the actress become a fashion icon.

However the Scandal star revealed that she doesn’t feel pressure at this point in her career to stay thin.

“I feel pressure that I put on myself to be the best version of myself possible,” Washington confessed. “But that’s been since I was a kid. I just think that’s what life is about, is going out there and being the best version of you that you can be. It’s not about being like anybody else.”
