A heartwarming video posted on You Tube just over a week ago has already garnered close to 2 million views.

In it, a young man from Ethiopia discusses the love and gratitude he has for his mother.

He then goes on to reassure her that the nurture and care she has provided over the years has not gone overlooked by presenting her with a gift that symbolizes a token of his appreciation.

Aba Atlas made the video on April 30th, his birthday, and it has since made many rounds across the web.

The three-minute video begins with Atlas expressing his gratitude for his mother’s “unconditional love.”

“She wakes up early in the morning, does 10-12 hour shifts, comes home late at night, cooks us food, goes to bed and repeats — all of this to provide for us,” he says.

“I know the burden she has and I have a tremendous amount of respect for her. She’s definitely the strongest person I know.”

Surprise, surprise!

Atlas continues on and says he wanted to surprise his mother with a gift that took him many years to save up for: His reported salary is $30,000 a year.

Moments later, the camera records Atlas and his unsuspecting mother as she enters the room and takes a seat before him. He then hands her an envelope.

She proceeds to open it and soon stares at the piece of paper she withdraws. It is a check made out to her with a lump sum that will cover her her mortgage – a mortgage she has worked so hard to pay.

“Wow, wow, wow, wow,” the mother says, surprised by the gift. “Are you sure?” she asks in shock.

The two communicate in Amharic, their native tongue, as the mother expresses her gratitude

“Tonight I will not sleep for fear of dying of happiness,” she says as Atlas includes a comical disclaimer saying, “Note: Ethiopian women can be dramatic.”

Atlas and his mother then hug as she is on the verge of tears.

“My life has always been about giving back and I wanted to do something special for her,” Atlas says in his closing statement. “I want to celebrate my life by celebrating the woman who gave me life.”
