If you’re tired of flpping through the channels for your daily dose of hip-hop via reality TV, the music oriented channel Fuse has just the program for you.

The Hustle is a scripted “dramedy” that follows the lives of four childhood friends that want to succeed in the music biz, while not losing their artistic independence.

Prentice Penny, writer and co-producer of The Hustle, wanted to create a show where the craft and dedication a rapper was on display rather than their personal life.

“Drama naturally does happen during The Hustle, but it’s not the focus,” said the former writer of Happy Endings.

To the average television viewer, Penny suggests The Hustle is an easily relatable story for anyone who wants to accomplish something great while battling adversity.

“Whether you want to pursue your dreams of being an emcee, or even if you want to go college, it’s a journey to become better. The Hustle is that story told in the backdrop of hip-hop.” said Penny.
