Jay-Z recently announced his upcoming album Magna Carta Holy Grail in a Samsung ad, and now he’s revealing more — sharing his thoughts on parenthood.
In another promo ad released by Samsung, Jay-Z discusses his song “Jay-Z Blue” which highlights his thoughts on fatherhood and his relationship with his 1-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
The first-time-father says that he and his wife BeyoncĂ© “still marvel at her” and that she is “something that we both created.”
Growing emotional, the rapper goes on to mention some of the personal experiences he drew upon that are tied into the song’s meaning.
“It deals with…you know my pop left when I was young. He didn’t teach me how to be a man nor how to raise a child — or treat a woman,” a Jay-Z tells friend and colleague Rick Rubin.
The rapper admits that his father left him at a young age – and now, he has taken on the responsibilities of being a successful businessman, a loyal husband and a great dad.
Still, Jay-Z says that the latter is something that still concerns him.
“Of course, my karma….the two things I need, I don’t have … and I have a daughter,” he says. “It’s [about] the paranoia of not being a great dad.”
