President Obama called her “incredibly talented” after she performed at one of his re-election rallies. MSNBC’s Tamron Hall interviews Grammy-winning singer, and Essence Festival performer, Janelle Monáe.

During the interview, at the 19th Annual Essence Festival in New Orleans, Monáe talks about her success and how her upbringing motivated and shaped her today.
