Pop starlet Selena Gomez has really arrived. How do we know? Because she has knocked sales powerhouse Jay Z off his perch on the top of the Billboard charts.
After his heavily-hyped new album Magna Carta Holy Grail debuted with 527,000 copies sold last week (in addition to a million more downloads via Samsung), it falls to number two this week behind Gomez’s popular (albeit critically reviled) new album Stars Dance.
The Gomez LP has reportedly sold between 90,000 and 100,000 copies. Jay Z’s album is expected to reach sales of 75,000 in its second week,
Still, Hov should not fret. His album is already one of the fastest selling of the year, trailing only Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience.
In fact, so far Magna Carta Holy Grail has outperformed other major hip-hop releases by relative youngsters like J.Cole, Wale and Jay Z’s protege Kanye West.
